Tips πŸ‘

The Dead Sea region is the perfect place to land, relax, and ease into your Jordan trip after a long flight.

  • The area is super quiet, especially in 2025β€”almost empty but completely safe.
  • Hotels are large resort-style complexes, and most have private beach access to the Dead Sea. Make sure yours has one since not much happens outside the hotels; it's mostly about relaxing and taking it slow.
  • Bring water shoes: the Dead Sea bottom is full of sharp salt crystals!
  • Floating in the Dead Sea is a mustβ€”mud bath included!
  • Wadi Mujib, the Salt Flats, and Ma'in Hot Springs are easy day trips nearby.

🏠 Accommodation
We stayed at the Hilton Dead Sea Resort & Spa, and it was exactly what we needed after a long journey. A big, modern hotel with direct beach access to the Dead Sea, multiple pools, good restaurants, and beautiful sunset views. Rooms were spacious and clean, breakfast was generous, and the overall vibe was laid-back luxury. Definitely a great base to relax and get over jetlag.

🚲 Getting there
We booked a private transfer from Amman Airport to our hotel at the Dead Sea before arrival. It's about a 1-hour drive and costed 85 JOD with the hotel. Highly recommend avoiding car rental and night driving on the first day since you might be tired, and roads have some tricky speed bumps.

⏱ Duration
We stayed three nights and two full days, which felt perfect. Enough time to rest, enjoy the Dead Sea, and explore nearby spots without rushing.

Dead Sea Mud & Float πŸ§‚

The first real activity was, of course, floating in the Dead Sea!
The hotel had a private beach where they provided buckets of fresh mud for full-body mud baths, a hilarious and must-do experience. After letting it dry in the sun, you just walk down and float effortlessly in the super salty water. After our dip, we chilled by the pool with some well-earned beers under the Jordanian sun.

Tip: wear old swimwear, because the salt is brutal on fabrics!

Wadi Mujib Adventure 🏞️

The next morning, we headed out to Wadi Mujib, only a short 20-minute drive from the hotel. We did the one-hour trail, a water canyon hike where you climb, swim, and wade against the river stream. Good shoes are absolutely necessary since the floor is slippery, and there's a lot of scrambling involved. It is possible however to buy some basic ones on site. The canyon was beautiful, with towering red rock walls and natural waterfalls. Super fun and refreshing, but prepare to get fully soaked!

Salt Flats Stop πŸ§‚

After Wadi Mujib, we made a quick roadside stop at the famous Salt Flats on a parking spot close to Wadi Mujib (see on Google Maps). The area was totally empty (one benefit of traveling in 2025) and surreal, with giant white salt formations against the dark blue water of the Dead Sea. It's a quick & free visit (15 minutes is enough), but worth pulling over if you're nearby.

Ma'in Hot Springs ♨️

Later that afternoon, we drove about 30 minutes inland to the Ma'in Hot Springs. Entry was 15 JOD per person. The springs are a favorite local spot, way more local vibe than touristy. The (really) hot waterfalls pour straight from the cliffs, and the main pool is naturally warm and super relaxing. It’s a bit rustic but authentic. Great for a couple of hours of soaking and people-watching.
