Tips 👏
- Second biggest city of Peru, very pretty and similar to Sucre.
- Still high with 2300m, but way lower than Puno.
🏠 Accommodation
We stayed at Hoteles Gutiérrez Mansión. Pretty ok with big room, but on-going building work so very dusty and noisy all day.

We arrived by the tour from Colca Canyon.

We stayed two nights and felt that was enough.
A walk in the city 🚶
We started our day with calm by walking to the Plaza de Armas. Most probably the highlight of the city, where we saw a beautiful square and the city cathedral.
After lunch, we went to visit the Museo Santuario Andino, where we saw the mummy of Juanita, a girl which was conserved in the ice for around 500 years. From the museum, we’ve headed to the San Camillo Market before grabbing a cab to the Mirador de Yanahuara to watch the wonderful view of the city with El Misti, a volcano of more than 5000 meters.
Seeing the sunset getting closer, we went back to the Plaza de Armas, and went to Waya Rooftop Bar to admire the evening view. A bit tipsy after few cocktails, we went to score good pizza at Las Gringas before getting some rest!
The following day, we woke up with calm, and headed to the Santa Catalina Monastery. The entrance is quite expensive, 40S/persons, but worth it 100%. It’s huge, and all the rooms are painted with vivid colours, most often blue or red. Peaceful and cute, we spent around 2 hours to walk around the many corridors and alleys of the site. We then got some pastas and crepes, and headed to the airport waiting for our flight to Cusco.
Restaurants 🍲
There’s plenty of good restaurant everywhere in the centre. Here’s the one we liked:
- Da Giancarlo: Good pizza for fixed price of 25S with Italian owner.
- Las Chicas: Decent prices and very good pizza and lasagnas.
- Prana: Cheap vegetarian restaurant with fresh ingredients.
- Pasta Canteen: Little lovely pasta place with a small tasty pasta dish for 25S.
- La petite francaise: Very good crepes for 8S.
